12.10.2019

Hi i have.max file and i dont have autocad or 3dmax and i want to import that.max file into sketchup how can i? The best way to import from SketchUp to Rhino. Posted on March 7, 2016 March 4, 2016 by natasach. To open, import, insert, and attach a file as a worksession. How have you been exporting in sketup to rhino? Because every time i bring a sketchup file to rhino, i get horrible meshes. Is there any way I can get a nice file.

The best way to get 3D I have found from sketchup to rhino is to use the obj export filter - this is a free download from the sketchup site. If you have textured the model the textures ride along with it and can be seen when rendered in rhino (V3 or 4). You need to look at how the model is put together in sketchup, esp if using layers to get the model into logical individual pieces in rhino - do a few tests. This is a smaller and cleaner file than going through dwg. If you are exporting sections as 2D dwg then the file will need a lot of cleaning up in rhino (or anything else). Little mud puddles. Arcs and circles all come in as tiny segments, many lines will overlapping. Once in rhino(V3 or V4) check your units - I use mm - then loosen your rhino tolerance to 1 (assuming mm).

Run seldup to pick up duplicates and delete them, then run selshortcurve and enter 1 to pick up all curves less than 1mm long and delete those. (Depending on your model you can choose to select all curves less than 5mm or whatever) Now on a layer by layer basis select all and run crvend and crvstart - this will mark all the hidden overlapping lines and you can then go through and clean them out - window select and delete them and fillet with 0 radius to clean up straight lines. Select and join all the little arc segments or simply use arc3point and snaps to draw a true arc over them and delete the original mess. On a big model with many section exports this is a lot of hassle, and if I had to go through this again I think it would be far better to model the whole thing in rhino which has a far better toolset for anything you want to be precise, perhaps using sketchup just for initial concepts.
